TV Camera

Postby Alexb123 » Tue Dec 17, 2013 12:48 am

Was in the Countdown audience last week. I was directly behind the middle camera so was watching his every move. He seemed to be the top cameraman and would often move his camera across to the next cameraman have a chat and come back. As he was the center camera he always had the job of doing the zoom in when the clock is about to run out of time. However, no matter where he moved to, he could always get the camera back to the exact right angle to do this zoom in. How?

I suspect he will have it marked somehow.

I couldn't see any visible sign of a marking. The floor is very shiny so I think it would show up. And yes this might be experience but the level of accuracy is so high and his error rate nonexistent that the camera must have something that guides him. I'm sure its a very simple solution once you know what it is.

Excuse the letters in the video its difficult to get an example.

Amazing numbers game. Had Carol Voderman with her mouth open. But no zoom in on the clock.

If only we had someone on the board who's son is an award-winning top TV bloke.

My mates son does the camerwork on the apprentice - maybe I should ask him?

As an aside - apparently Alan Sugar is quite demanding to work with! Who would have guessed? I am sure I would prefer Carol anyday.
Note: I am not legally qualified, just been around a few blocks. The sorry cynic.

Also - it is quite possible that his camera is taking in a massive field of view and that is electronically managed to only show a cropped image of the close up on the clock on our screens.

Or then again maybe they have a fixed set of footage of the clock that always re-use and superimpose it on other images 'green screen' style

Maybe we will never know!

Its not the massive field of view as I could see on his camera what was happening and he was spot on every-time. His viewfinder does have a number of digital marking lines where you can see how accurate his positioning is. But he could so naturally go to these incredibly accurate positions that I feel it would be impossible to do this without assistance. It not just camera position, its tilt and pan and other things I don't know the names for.
