Self forgiveness

Postby dls » Sun Jul 23, 2017 7:41 am

Trump is apparently suggesting that he could and would pardon himself if he is ever prosecuted for whatever might have happened in teh campaign.

It certainly seems to be an extraordinary proposition, but it has foundation apparently in a previous similar act by none other than revered former president Roosevelt.
Oh for an unwritten constitution.

Either -

1. Trump really is stupid, acts without thinking, and will bring on his own impeachment, or

2. His tweets are distraction from whatever his real agenda is, because he knows the media will latch on to the easy pickings of his twitterings and look no further.

Having given the question long and hard thought, I am moved to add:

3. Both of the above, but the agenda is not his own.

I have since been unable to trace how Roosevelt P is supposed to have formally pardoned himself.

It seems that he cannot pardon himself in a matter of impeachment. His successor can pardon him though.
