Security guards obliged to display ID?

Postby shootist » Mon Feb 12, 2018 5:13 pm

I recall reading recently that private security guards such as you might find at the entrance to office blocks, government buildings, courts etc, are obliged by law to wear and display their ID (licence?) card whilst on duty. I cannot find the appropriate legislation, which was quoted in the article I read, but I can't find it now. Can anyone assist please?

The Private Security Industry (Licenses) Regulations 2007, Regulation 5(3)(a), SI No. 810 of 2007.

Many thanks for that. I must be off my feed a bbit though as I cannot see any reference in that or the parent act that suggests any security person not showing his badge as obliged is actually committing any offence. Any ideas?

It is an offence to engage in any licensable conduct except under and in accordance with a licence: s.3(1) of the 2001 Act. It is a condition of a licence that it is displayed; and therefore a person who does not display their licence is not acting in accordance with their licence and commits an offence.
