If a victim makes a claim for compensation via a MG19 form and the CPS will in the event of a guilty verdict seek compensation for the victim, are the CPS or the police obligated to reveal this to the defence. Additionally are the CPS suppose to get receipts. I would of thought both of the answers are a big yes , what do the experts think ?

In my experience, where there is evidence of financial or physical harm, a defendant should expect to pay compensation whether or not the CPS ask for it. We do not need to be asked in order to award it.

Looking at one online, this form sats in bold type at the top of every page:

RESTRICTED - FOR POLICE, PROSECUTION AND COURT ONLY

This gives the person completing it an expectation that it will not be shown to the defendant.

Or indeed the Court!

I've never seen one. CPS tells us if there has been any specific loss and to what value.

Have I got this right?

You are a defendant to a criminal charge.

The alleged victim has claimed for compensation, using one of these forms.

The form indicates it might be shown to you.

It has indeed been shown to you.

You ask if it might be shown to you.

Why?
