Obtaining the MASTER copy of Body Worn Camera footage

Postby BWH » Thu Feb 09, 2017 3:35 pm

When a trial is over , is there any mechanism to obtain or even view the MASTER COPY?

What do you mean by "master copy"? The original file may no longer exist in its original location, having been transferred.

When the police officer downloads the contents of BWC footage per procedure they must make 2 copies a MASTER and a Working copy. The MASTER gets sealed and is held back only if the defence requests. Off course if I knew all this at the time I would of asked the right question but that is another story

i do not know the answer directly, but there was a whole system in place for storage of records of interviews held under PACE. Themachine makes two copies. The inteviewee is asked which he wants to be be sealed. It is so sealed and goes off for stirage. The other is used for all practical m atters.
The Master tape is then accessible only on the order of a crown court judge. From rather dim memory, I think that such orders were extremely rare.

That system made sense for that technology. I am not sure that it would make sense for such a system to be copied for body camera footage, but elements of it may be inherited.
