I have turned caching off for the moment. This should slow the site down a little, but may clear the errors.

Looks like someone is mucking about with file permissions - your host may be moving stuff or it might simply be capacity contention black friday/backup processes, storage reorging.
My suggestions are not legal advice

The returned 500 Internal Server Error report suggests so.

Moving stuff around (reorganising things), logically, physically manually or automatically. Usually with the aim of improving resilience, availability, manageability or performance. Sometimes logical locations are incorrectly referenced by their physical address and then when things move - they break

The errors have been both persistent and intermittent. I have been unable to find a positive answer, but will look again.

I did go to one site looking for an answer - only to be met with a 500 error.
I can only apologise.

If you havent already read these- a cpl of possible fixes that may be of interest, DLS.

PROBLEM SOLVED.

went on my server changed in iis7 the 500 web page error feature to return a fully detailed error message and got this

Error Summary
HTTP Error 500.19 - Internal Server Error

The requested page cannot be accessed because the related configuration data for the page is invalid.

Detailed Error Information

Module RequestFilteringModule
Notification BeginRequest
Handler StaticFile
Error Code 0x800700b7
Config Error Cannot add duplicate collection entry of type 'add' with unique key attribute 'segment' set to 'config.php'
Config File \\?\C:\inetpub\wwwroot\xxxxxxxxx\stk\web.config
Requested URL http://www.xxxxxxxxxxxxx.co.uk:80/stk
Physical Path C:\inetpub\wwwroot\xxxxxxxxx\stk
Logon Method Not yet determined
Logon User Not yet determined

Config Source

6: <hiddenSegments>
7: <add segment="config.php" />
8: <add segment="common.php" />

The solution for me was that i placed the stk folder into server root with all correct permissions,
Then deleted the web.config file which came in the stk download which was giving me the 500 server error message.
now everthing works a treat

None of which means a great deal to me, but they seem to be curing problems following a new installation. This problem is real but is an intermittent one.
