Insurance Fraud Department - IFED

Postby Hector » Sat Jun 14, 2014 7:07 am

I've watched a couple of episodes of 'Claimed & Shamed' where IFED deal with reports from insurance companies of suspected fraudulant insurance claims. It got me thinking that if IFED investigate suspected fraudulant claims by insured parties should they also investigate suspected fraudulant defences of claims by insurance policy holders :?: After all isn't that insurance fraud :?:

So that I can understand, please give an example of a fraudulent defence of a claim.

Do you mean a colluding defendant admitting liability so that the fraudulent Claimant can get a payout, in which he will share?

Good morning Atticus.
Say someone slipped in a puddle of vegetable oil in a hospital corridor and badly injured their knee. The someone puts a claim in against the hospital who passes it on to their insurers. The hospital tells their insurers that the someone's knee is not badly injured and produces false expert reports confirming this.

That dishonesty is not a fraud on the insurance company. It is a fraud on the claimant and on the Court.
