Yes. And, you're supposed to buy your ticket from the vending machine at the bus stop. The driver probably doesn't carry much of a float.

Yes. £1.40 on Oyster. So you'd have saved two quid on your £4.80 return.

You can buy an Oyster online from TfL. They only work in London. However if you have a contactless payment card, you can use it as an Osyter card on the buses now, and on the Tube from early in the New Year.

Vending machine at the Bus stop? There wasn't a vending machine, in fact I've never seen one... Are they only at main stops?

Maybe not at every stop, but there are a lot of them.
