I'm turning into my father.

A place to sit about and chat between more important things.

I'm turning into my father.

Postby shootist » Wed Apr 19, 2017 11:33 am

While messing around on one of the computers I hooked up a small but decent speaker to test the audio. For lack of any ready alternative I stacked up a simple playlist of Beatles tracks. Great music with lyrics that can be heard and enjoyed, better than 90% of the crap that passes for popular music today. Just like my old man would say about Rogers and Hammerstein stuff and the like. :(

Old age can be frightening.

What you forget is that at least 90% of popular music at any time is eminently forgettable.

Pop music is mostly forgettable but you're right, most men turn into their fathers unless they actively try not to.

I'm not Cliff Richard or Elvis fan. On the other side of the house - I hate country music. All popular with the boomer's generation that make up my parents and parent in laws.

I suggest that we each recommend one song to shooter to enhance his aural pleasure.

I nominate Undertow by Lisa Hannigan: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lSnaQAv77JE

Thank God for that! Ever since the time my ever so slightly less than heterosexual neighbour at the first house I bought used to bring home stray, drunken, lorry drivers at three in the morning and woke up the wife and I with Burley Chassis belting out "I am what I am" accompanied by his headboard pounding the adjoining wall I cannot listen to her.

In that case I suggest Gay Bar by Electric Six.
