Another duff survey

Postby dls » Tue Jan 10, 2017 11:07 pm

One in three women harassed while running, survey finds

But the survey failed to ask men whether they also suffered harassment. If I may say so, I ran for several years in and around Halifax. I think I could guarantee that nearly every runner was at some point harassed. There were particular areas where you might expect to have stones thrown, and at the very least get catcalls.

Why should it only matter to women?

It also fails to define harassment, wolf whistles, comments? Maybe, but I know at least one very attractive woman who jogged and enjoyed the comments. Also, one might wonder which ones were the ugly ones, and did the harassment differ? Another mechanism for creating statutory victims.

I imagine that a lot of men would not own up to feeling harassed.

And they might well define it differently.
It would be nice (possibly) to be able to think that these surveys were just misguided scientists, but in truth, we are reduced to asking what political point they are wanting to make, for which we need usually only look at the question.

The political point probably has its origins in sugar, spice and all things nice..

Demographic and geographic details would also help. i.e. where, when and who.

Getting harassed on the bike by drivers or the mtb by bobble hats is a regular occurrence. I normally just smile and give a cheery wave, its not worth ruining your day for.

If the question was "have you ever been harassed while running" then a 33% positive response is very low. The conclusion being that the vast majority have never experienced harassment while running.
My suggestions are not legal advice
