Pushing people under a bus...

Postby Hairyloon » Thu Aug 10, 2017 11:28 pm

Well, not quite, but dangerously close.
A woman has escaped serious injury after appearing to be pushed by a jogger into the path of a bus.

CCTV of the incident shows a man running along Putney Bridge in west London and appearing to shove the 33-year-old into the road.

I am not convinced it was deliberate, though I am open to be persuaded, but I am certain it was at best a wilful disregard for the other person.

I thought so. Then I watched again and was less certain.

If we accept, for the sake of discussion, that it was deliberate, then what offence(s) might have been committed? Could it go as far as attempted murder?

It seems the police also are struggling with finding a crime. Looking at the footage and being mindful of similar footage that cost peter Segan his tour de france place this year. I'm not convinced it was a deliberate attack.

There has been similar cases where the charge was murder.

Why does it seem that?

I doubt that there will be a murder charge in this case.

S.39 Common Assault unless the runner is minded to confess intent to do something more serious.

Due consideration for other road users presumably applies only to drivers.

there are no dangerous running laws. correct. but at a point anything you do could be seen as so negligently reckless it might be criminally so. Had he stopped to help her, I wonder if anyone would have said it was a deliberate push.

Nobody has been charged with anything.

It _appears_ that the push may have been deliberate. It is much less clear that the runner had any awareness of the approaching bus.

Assuming he only wanted to push her then that is common assault. You would have to prove intent for anything else. No evidence for anything else at this time.
