Private Parking Rules bite back

Postby dls » Mon Apr 03, 2017 3:58 pm

For several years, there have been simple assertions made (in one form or another) that private companies cannot recover parking charges.

I have sympathy for some such assertions, but hope I have recognised that they can bite.
A news story today confirms that:

under a headline
Court orders woman to pay £24,500 to private parking company

This seems consistent with the Parking Eye decision.

I'd have thought she'd have been better off hiring expertise to explore other angles. Tenancy rights, exact wording of the parking charge contract, authorisation of the parking company or even the total number of times that its charge could be applied.

Stupid woman, and an even more stupid Sheriff, allowing a private parking company to collect such an absurdly astronomical charge from an individual for "parking".

They should have towed the vehicle to an Impound Lot long before such a ridiculous fee had accumulated.

I think this was multiple parking "offences" and multiple tickets, not a case of leaving the car there for a month or 2.

Miner would no doubt say that on, say, the 10th occasion ...
