Barosso - exit stage left

Postby dls » Mon Oct 20, 2014 7:25 pm

The chief chappie (soon ex chief) at the European Commission threatens the UK with all the bluster he can manage about the UK having 'zero' influence if leaving the EU.

Does he have any idea at all of just how damaging his words are to the influence of the EU within the UK? He shows no sign of it.

Can anyone suggest what positive or helpful outcome might happen from his outburst?

Does anyone think he did not look a simple fool?

Barasso has played right into Cameron's hands by 'counter-attacking'. He should have taken the high moral ground, adopted a calm and magisterial demeanour :

We hear many interesting proposals from our friends across Europe. Some work, and others do not. It is best not to jump to an opinion about new ideas, but to discuss and analyse them with our parliament and member states. He has no doubt that the UK, as a founding pillar of Europe's peace and prosperity, will continue to be an important member of the EU.

That sort of thing.
