It was meant to be Mandy Rice Davies, but you're right - I confused my 1960's femme icons.

You're getting old, too, Slarti!

I could never forget those faces, given the intensity of all the publicity at the time!

Dr Stephen Ward, "Lucky" Gordon, the Russian naval Attaché - what was he called...? Ivanov ?? Not to mention Profumo himself, and then there was Harold MacMillan's famous remark about the issues .... "Nobody told me"!

No, I'm just a bit too young. I was alive at that time, but yet not taking an interest in political scandal.

I was at the age where I was not yet au fait with the nature, extent and ramifications of the political scandal, but was taking a great interest in who was bonking and banging whom, and why!

I had no idea you were such a bunch of geriatrics.

No, Stoaty, we're just a bunch of individuals with many years of hard-nosed experience of the University of Life!

"Geriatric is the normal, semi-official term used in Britain and the US when referring to the health care of old people ( a geriatric ward; geriatric patients). When used outside such contexts, it typically carries overtones of being worn out and decrepit and can therefore be offensive if used with reference to people".

I have no health care issues. I'm sure you did not intend to be offensive via your use of the term.

I apologise for being mildly cheeky. I had no idea you were so sensitive.

Presumably you will now be applying this high standard to your own posts to this board?

I was not offended. Being past 50, and after treating my body and mind very badly throughout, I do worry that I have only a decade or two of fully active life left. It's a sobering thought.

Youth is wasted on the young, let's close the door and move forward eh?
