Dead MP's (or otherwise unavailable).

Dead MP's (or otherwise unavailable).

Postby Hairyloon » Mon Feb 22, 2016 1:14 pm

My MP died recently and we have at least one important vote coming up in the commons. Do we simply have to put up with being unrepresented in the interval, or is there some mechanism to address the problem?

I suppose it is possible to have set things up with the pairing system for bills that were known to be upcoming, which is probably most of them, but that is obviously less than ideal.

This Parliament note gives you some answers.

Will you be standing in the by-election?

That is the mechanism for getting a replacement. Is there any mechanism for cover in the interval?

I gave it some thought, but it is among the safest seats in the country. Besides which, I've probably annoyed his team enough that they could get personal about the fight. ;)

The paper that the Loon clearly has not read wrote:Until a new MP is elected, constituency matters are handled by an MP of the same party in a neighbouring constituency.

OP that the Stoat clearly hasn't read says:
we have at least one important vote coming up in the commons.

Clearly I have read it, else I would not know that Atticus is doing that thing that Atticus does so well: avoiding the question while pretending that he has cleverly answered it.

The difference is that I post links that attempt to answer the question that was posted.
