Ministry of Defence and the SRA

Three high profile solicitors were investigated and tried at the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal, accused of acting improperly in their involvement in the El-Swaedy inquiry in respect of allegations made against British troops. The prosecutions failed.

It has now been suggested that the MOD took up an unduly friendly relationship with the Solicitors Regulation Authority - in effect the suspicion is that they leaned on the SRA to make what became politically motivated prosecutions of the solicitors.

We do not know the truth yet of the allegations, but progress might be being made.

I have, in the past, excoriated Harriet Harman for her (many/several) sins. It is only fair to say that she is on the right track on this one.
