Requirement for an inquest to be held

When does it become obligatory for an inquest to be held into a death?

An inquest is held when a death is sudden or unexplained. The purpose is to determine who died, when and how.

Inquest (organisation) have an interesting statement on why more than an inquest is needed to investigate the Grenfell Tower tragedy - http://www.inquest.org.uk/media/pr/inqu ... tower-fire
