"Administrative Costs."

"Administrative Costs."

Postby Hairyloon » Thu Dec 14, 2017 7:16 pm

What can properly be filed under "administrative costs"?
A concern has been raised about a local company and looking at their accounts for 2016 I notice an entry for "administrative costs" of around double their turnover...
Is it (generally speaking) nobody's business but their own, should a query be directed to Companies House, or is there some other course of action that should be taken?

It means not a lot. No specific meaning as far as I know. Just a way of not describing them.

Are there any proper grounds to avoid describing such a large figure?

You may ask the directors. But if you are not a shareholder, or the company's bank or a significant trading partner you will be lucky even to get the answer that you should mind your own business.

You could visit an accountancy forum.

People that want other people to keep noses out of their business ought not to beg for help to do up their centre of charitable activity and then put that centre up for sale...

Indeed, and I should have picked that up from your earlier post.

Not really, but there was no cause to suggest that it was rooted in gratuitous nosiness.

If you are considering donation or other support you might enquire about those costs, what they are, and whether any savings might be made. The manner and content of the reply might influence your decision about any further dealings with the organisation.
