Late Filing?

Late Filing?

Postby raydona » Tue Sep 12, 2017 12:25 am

Hello, I am the sole director of a limited company. I submitted my accounts on time. However, I forgot to sign at the foot of the balance sheet. The accounts were returned to me for my signature after the deadline for submission. I duly signed and returned the accounts to Companies House. However, now they are demanding £300 as penalty for late filing.
My questions are (i) does my case fall under late filing and (ii) the deadline for submission was 31 July 2017, my second submission was on 22 August 2017, how do they arrive at the figure of £300? I would be grateful for all help.

Accounts must be signed by a director of the company - https://www.gov.uk/annual-accounts

Penalties - https://www.gov.uk/annual-accounts/pena ... ate-filing

All of which suggests that unsigned accounts are not accounts for this purpose. The second link gives information on how to appeal.

The penalty for filing up to one month late is £150, but doubled if the accounts are late 2 years in a row. Get your accounts done earlier next year.

also, file online, you don't need to sign them then, you just submit them along with your corp tax return. it makes it a whole lot easier.
